WHAT'S ON AT GARSTANG ARTS CENTRE - APRIL 2017 What's on at Garstang Arts Centre April 2017 April Art Exhibition LEYLAND ARTISTS will be exhibiting their work from the 11th April – 4th May. A group of local artists aiming to foster the artistic talents of people of all abilities and to encourage a general interest in art within a friendly club setting. A weekly forum is provided for members to paint in all mediums and to share interests and experience. Their web site www.leylandartists.co.uk has won universal acclaim as one of the best club art sites in the UK. Sheila Tearle – Exhibition Co-ordinator. 200 Club Draw and Quiz will take place at 7.30pm on Saturday 8th April at the Arts Centre. This is the Spring draw for the 200 Club so to have a chance of winning the £400 top prize your number(s) need to be paid for before this date. Please hand cheques or cash (still only £13) to Hilary or Vanessa or simply post through the Arts Centre door. If you don't yet have a number we still have a few not spoken for. The draw will be accompanied by the Charles Flatt Quiz. The list for teams is on the Arts Centre notice board. Nibbles will be provided on the night but please bring your own drinks. The Bridge Group The evening bridge sessions will take place on Monday April 3rd 10th 17th 24th and 1st May at 7-00pm in the Arts Centre. Details from Bob on 01995 603524. The Tuesday Bridge Group will meet at 1-30pm in the Arts Centre on April 4th,11th 25th and May 2nd Enquiries ring Mary on 01995 605210. New members are always very welcome at both sessions where they will be instructed by an experienced bridge player and will find that existing members are all very willing to help. The Garstang Ukulele Group We've only got one gig in April, have too many people heard us? LOL. Seriously, if you would like to book us contact Bob Sapey on 01995 604621. March was an exceptional month when Ron turned our regular strumalong at the Tithe Barn into a fundraiser for Great Ormond Street Hospital. He raised £1,100 which will go towards his daughter in law's marathon bid to raise £3k+. We are taking part in the Garstang Music and Arts Festival in August with GarFest at the Tithe Barn on 26 August - http://www.garstangukulelegroup.co.uk/index.php/garfest-2017 GarFest will be our first ukulele festival in Garstang and is completely free. We will have workshops for beginners and more advanced players alongside a range of individuals, groups and bands from Lancashire, Cumbria and Manchester. Who knows, we may even have an international dimension - watch this space. Meanwhile, join us at the Tithe Barn on the 2nd Thursday of each month for a fun strum. http://www.ukulelejukebox.uk Easter Craft and Collectors' Fair Saturday April 15th. Have a great time at our popular Fair which runs from 10.30 am to 3.30 pm. We have something for everyone. Small antiques and collectables, cards, handmade wooden objects and pens, cushions and aprons, vintage cutlery and coins, books, hand knitted children’s clothes, wonderful jewellery, hand made notebooks and decorations, lovely homemade cakes and of course hand crafted ornaments made from EGGS! Light refreshments are available all day. ENTRY IS FREE! The Garstang Floral Art Group The next meeting of the Group will take place in the Arts Centre on Tuesday 18th April at 2-00pm when Sara Barrow from Goosnargh makes a return visit to demonstrate her unique style of flower arranging. Sara has won many awards including a Gold at Chelsea Flower Show and has now opened a shop in Longridge,-“ Flowers with Passion” Light refreshments will be served after the demonstration. Poetry Appreciation Friday April 28th 2pm - 4pm. It’s just for the birds is the title of this month's meeting led by Marie Whalley. We hope you will fly away with ideas and twitter throughout the afternoon. From Condors to Canaries there are so many wonderful poems about birds. We look forward to hearing from you.
